It was worn on the right breast by Territorial Force officers and men who had volunteered under the Imperial Service Obligation to serve overseas in a national emergency, rather than being restricted to home defence. It was a horizontal bar surmounted by a royal crown, with the raised inscription “IMPERIAL SERVICE,” 10mm by 43mm.
