The 16th Light Cavalry was an Indian Army regiment that was among the first to be mechanized and fully Indianized before World War II. Stationed in India for much of the war, it was deployed to Burma in 1945, where it supported General William Slim's Fourteenth Army during the Burma Campaign with operations like the Battle of Meiktila and the capture of Rangoon. After the war, the regiment was allocated to the Indian Army and remains in service today.
