Rare matching set removed from uniform, nice that they have not been glued into a display album, recently found in the Norfolk area.

NK” is the standard shoulder title abbreviation for Norfolk .The 9th Norfolk Battalion Home Guard had its headquarters at  Wymondham (pronounced “Windham” locally) is a historic market town in south Norfolk, about 10 miles southwest of Norwich.

These are a matched pair of shoulder title sets, worn together on battledress:
∙ The curved “HOME GUARD” title worn on the upper sleeve
∙ The rectangular “9NK” title worn immediately below it, denoting the 9th Battalion, Norfolk

The county abbreviation system:
The Home Guard used two-letter county codes throughout England. NK = Norfolk. Norfolk had 17 Home Guard battalions in total, numbered 1st through 17th, all using the NK designation – ranging from East Dereham (1st) to Reepham (17th).
Why Wymondham is interesting:
Wymondham is a genuinely notable Norfolk town – home to Wymondham Abbey and the market town centre of a largely rural agricultural area in south Norfolk. The 9th Battalion would have been responsible for defending this part of the county, covering the surrounding villages and road/rail infrastructure.
