Boer War Commander in Chief’s Bodyguard brass shoulder title With brass wire loops
This striking brass shoulder title was worn by members of the Commander in Chief’s Bodyguard — a unique mounted unit raised during the Second Boer War (1899–1902). The corps was formed in South Africa by Field-Marshal Lord Roberts as his personal bodyguard, initially a small select detachment of around 40 mounted colonial volunteers chosen for their horsemanship and combat experience. In November 1900 the Bodyguard was expanded into a full fighting regiment, serving with distinction in several operations across the Orange River Colony under its original commander, Major D. Tyrie Laing.
