This is the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade formation patch, worn on the right sleeve.
Canada sent the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry to join British and Australian regiments of the 28th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade in February 1951, and by July the full 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade had arrived in Korea, forming the 1st Commonwealth Division alongside other Commonwealth contributors. Because the division needed both brigade and division identification, the Canadian brigade wore two patches, one per sleeve: a pale blue “COMMONWEALTH” shield on the left identifying the 1st Commonwealth Division, and on the right sleeve, a scarlet shield measuring 2⅛ by 3⅜ inches with “CANADA” in gold lettering over silver-white olive sprays (symbolic of the UN) encircling a yellow maple leaf.
