Ugandan Army cap badge worn circa 1962-79.
Mint condition blackened brass cap badge.
Description
An excellent blackened brass cap badge of the Ugandan Army, dating from the country’s early independence period through to the late 1970s. The badge is in mint, unworn condition, retaining full dark finish and sharp detail to the design.
Background
The Ugandan Army was established in 1962, following Uganda’s independence from British colonial rule. Initially formed from elements of the King’s African Rifles, it adopted British-style uniforms, ranks, and insignia.
This badge design was worn during the regimes of Milton Obote and Idi Amin, a turbulent era in East African history marked by coups and political upheaval. The cap badge represents the early post-colonial identity of Uganda’s armed forces before the transition to the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) after 1979.
