Rare badge in great condition.
Original First World War National War Savings Committee “For Service” enamel badge, produced c.1916–1918. Made by Thomas Fattorini, Birmingham (maker’s mark on reverse). The design features a red enamel field with a central swastika used as a good-luck emblem—a common British symbol at the time, decades before its later political association.
These badges were worn by local volunteers who helped promote Britain’s War Savings movement, encouraging the public to buy War Savings Certificates to fund the war effort. The symbol was later discontinued in the 1930s when its meaning changed.
