original embroidered shoulder patch issued by the U.S. Army to members of the Free French Expeditionary Corps (Corps Expéditionnaire Français – CEF) serving alongside American forces during the Italian Campaign in 1943–1944. These patches were produced in the United States and supplied to French volunteer troops who fought under U.S. operational command.
The patch was worn by Free French soldiers attached to U.S. units in Italy, including those who took part in operations in the Garigliano, Monte Cassino, and the advance toward Rome. These insignia were produced specifically for French troops under American logistical support and are one of the most recognisable symbols of the early Free French presence in the European theatre.
