Rare brass cap badge in mint condition. Le R©giment de Qu©bec is one of the oldest and most distinguished infantry regiments in the Canadian Armed Forces, with a proud history that includes significant involvement in the Second World War. During World War II, Le R©giment de Qu©bec contributed both directly and indirectly to the war effort. Heres how: 1. Active Service Mobilization In 1939, when Canada entered WWII, Le R©giment de Qu©bec was mobilized for active duty. The 1st Battalion of the regiment was designated for active service. However, rather than serving overseas as a unit, many soldiers from the regiment were used to reinforce other units or were assigned to home defence. Home Defence Duties €¢ During the early part of the war, the regiment served on the West Coast of Canada as part of the 6th Canadian Infantry Division, which was tasked with defending against potential Japanese attacks. €¢ They played a crucial role in coastal defence, training, and garrison duties in British Columbia. Reinforcements to Other Units While the full regiment didnt deploy to Europe as a single fighting force, many members were transferred to other Canadian units fighting in Europe€”especially in Normandy, the Netherlands, and Italy. This means that soldiers from Le R©giment de Qu©bec fought and died alongside other units like the Royal 22e R©giment (Van Doos) and the Canadian Scottish Regiment. Although the regiment did not see overseas combat as a full unit in WWII, its contributions through manpower and home defence were vital. The regiment holds battle honours from earlier and later conflicts, including WWI and Korea. After the war, Le R©giment de Qu©bec returned to its reserve role but remains active and respected today. Based in Quebec City, the regiment retains a strong French-Canadian military tradition. It continues to serve as part of the Primary Reserve, training citizen-soldiers for domestic operations and deployments abroad. While Le R©giment de Qu©bec did not fight as a complete unit in Europe during WWII, it played an important supporting role by defending Canadas west coast and supplying reinforcements to the front lines.
