Not at all sure what this badge was made for , possibly a mess dress waiters turban or other head dress. It is too large to be a lapel or sweetheart being silver and hand chisled badge with pugri type rear fixing it was made to be worn .
During WWII,
RAF No. 11 Squadron was a mobile bomber and ground-attack unit that fought in the Middle East, East Africa, and Burma. Initially flying Bristol Blenheimsagainst Italian forces in 1940, the squadron was redeployed multiple times, supporting British forces during campaigns in Greece, Syria, Iraq, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). By 1943, the squadron transitioned to Hawker Hurricanes for ground-attack duties in Burma.
- East Africa (1940): After moving from India, No. 11 Squadron flew its first combat mission on June 19, 1940, attacking Italian targets in East Africa with Blenheims.
- Egypt and Greece (1940–1941): The squadron moved to Egypt to support Operation Compass before being sent to Greece to fight the Italians. They were later evacuated and moved to Palestine.
- Syria and Iraq (1941): From Palestine, the squadron supported the Syrian campaignagainst the Vichy French, then moved to Iraq to support the British occupation.
- Ceylon and Burma (1942–1945): Redeployed to Colombo, Ceylon, the squadron attacked Japanese shipping. In 1943, it re-equipped with Hawker Hurricanes and moved to Burma to support the Fourteenth Army with ground attacks.
Aircraft and campaigns
- Aircraft: The squadron's primary aircraft included the Bristol Blenheim, Hawker Hurricane, and later, the Boston and Baltimore.
