The reverse reads "Kriegsmarine" arched over the shank, with "JFS" with the date of 1942. Genuine WWII German Kriegsmarine (navy) uniform button, and JFS is the maker's mark for Josef Feix & Söhne, a manufacturer based in Gablonz. JFS is a well documented Kriegsmarine supplier, also seen on badges, cap eagles and buckles from the same period
The front shows a fouled anchor (anchor with rope wrapped around it), the standard Kriegsmarine button motif. 26mm size for a tunic or greatcoat button. Kriegsmarine buttons typically came in two sizes: a smaller one (around 16 to 21mm) for cuffs and smaller items, and a larger one (around 24 to 26mm) for the front of tunics and greatcoats.
