After the 1852 revival of the militia, the regiment was embodied for the Crimean War from December 1854 and, in May 1855, was one of the first two militia units sent to Aldershot. It was called out again during the Indian Mutiny and stationed at Clonmel in Ireland. On 1 July 1881 it became the 3rd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment.
