A truly exceptional quality large gilded brass glengarry badge. The Battalion was raised in New Brunswick with mobilization headquarters at Fredericton, New Brunswick under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed November 9, 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel P.A. Guthrie with a strength of 27 officers and 1,029 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 20th Infantry Battalion. It was disbanded on September 15, 1920 In March 1918, it was absorbed into the 20th Reserve Battalion, CEF, to provide reinforcements for Canadian units at the front. The 236th Battalion is perpetuated by the Royal New Brunswick Regiment The story of the 236th Battalion highlights the cross-border connections and shared heritage between Canada and the United States during World War I, exemplified by the Scotsamerican volunteers who joined its ranks.
