The 4th Volunteer Battalion, Royal Scots was based in Edinburgh and Midlothian, formed mainly from local rifle volunteer corps. They would have worn this HPC on the Home Service Pattern (HSP) blue cloth helmet, used by British infantry between 1878 and 1902.
