Large white metal other ranks 9th Battalion  H.L.I  worn circa 1908-1939. When the Territorial Force was created in 1908, they became the 9th (Glasgow Highlanders) Battalion HLI and changed the badge to add GLASGOW HIGHLANDERS on the upper scroll and 9th BATN. H.L.I. on the lower. Following Black Watch custom, a bi-metal version was also made for senior NCOs.

After the First World War. The battalion was briefly disbanded with the rest of the Territorial Force, then reformed as a single battalion in 1920 when the Territorial Army was formed.

Why the pattern ends in 1939. At the outbreak of war in 1939 a second battalion was raised, and the two became the 1st and 2nd Battalions, The Glasgow Highlanders (HLI). The badge kept its Black Watch style but got a three-part lower scroll reading LIGHT / HIGHLAND / INFANTRY.
