8 Anodised buttons all in good condition, 4 large and 4 medium size.
Description
A matching set of eight anodised aluminium buttons for the Essex Regiment, comprising four large tunic and four medium pocket or epaulette sizes. All retain their original shanks and bright gilt finish with only light service wear.
Background
These staybrite buttons date from the late 1950s–1960s, when the British Army transitioned from traditional brass to anodised aluminium fittings for ease of maintenance and a permanently polished appearance. The design bears the regiment’s emblem — the Castle and Key of Gibraltar above the motto Montis Insignia Calpe — used by the Essex Regiment until its 1958 amalgamation into the 3rd East Anglian Regiment (16th/44th Foot).
