Bullard King operated the Natal Direct Line. The company was started in 1850 by Daniel King and Samuel Bullard , and in 1879 they introduced the Natal Direct Line, running steamers from London to Durban, later East Africa and Mauritius, and from 1889 also carrying Indian field labourers to South Africa for the sugar plantations . The line traded until 1960, when its fleet was absorbed into the Springbok Line  (having been bought by Union-Castle)
