Large Gilt brass uniform button (large 25mm size) of the Dutch shipping company Rotterdamsche Lloyd, bearing the intertwined ‘RL’ monogram within a beaded border and the legend ‘ROTTERDAMSCHE LLOYD’. Manufactured by uniform outfitter Kulberg & Co., Rotterdam (backmark), this pattern was worn on officers’ and crew uniforms on the company’s passenger and cargo vessels trading primarily between Rotterdam and the Dutch East Indies and other worldwide routes. In use from the late 1940s into the 1960s, before Rotterdamsche Lloyd was absorbed into Koninklijke Nedlloyd in 1970.”
