K.A.R (Kings African Rifles) brass shoulder title with 2 rear loop fixings.
Description
A genuine brass shoulder title for the King’s African Rifles (K.A.R.), complete with two original rear loop fixings. Crisp detail and rich patina make this a fine, untouched example of classic colonial insignia.
Background
The King’s African Rifles was a multi-battalion British colonial regiment formed in 1902, drawing recruits from East Africa — notably Kenya, Uganda, Nyasaland (Malawi), Tanganyika (Tanzania), and Somaliland. The regiment served with distinction in both World Wars, earning battle honours across East Africa, Burma, and Madagascar.
Shoulder titles of this brass pattern were worn during the early- to mid-20th century by men of the regiment, including during the inter-war and early WWII period, before anodised staybrite versions appeared.
