K/C Uganda Police horn button by Grove.

The Uganda Police, King’s Crown (so pre-1952, likely dating to the George VI period, 1936-52, given the “GVI” cypher visible at the base of the badge). The centre device is a crested crane, Uganda’s national symbol, inside a garter reading “UGANDA POLICE”.

Approx 24mm button.The back mark reads James Grove and Sons, a British button manufacturer based in the West Midlands , and they were one of the world’s largest horn button producers . I believe this is a horn button. The translucent, almost waxy, pale honey colour is characteristic of horn rather than the more common black horn or vulcanite/bakelite buttons seen on most UK constabulary uniforms of the period. Horn buttons in this lighter, semi-translucent finish were less common and are a nice detail for a listing since most colonial police buttons that survive are dark vulcanite or brass.
