Palestine Police cap badge by Dowler, Birmingham.

King’s Crown Palestine Police fine quality cap badge nicely maker marked Dowler London. Nice to find an original example of a much re produced police cap badge.

The PPF was a British colonial police service established in Mandatory Palestine on 1 July 1920, when High Commissioner Sir Herbert Samuel’s civil administration took over security responsibility from General Allenby’s Occupied Enemy Territory Administration.

• This followed Allenby’s victory at Megiddo and the Ottoman surrender on 30 October 1918, which left Britain in complete control of Palestine.   Police HQ was initially set up in the Russian Compound in Jerusalem, on Jaffa Road.

• By 1928 the force had 2,143 officers: 1,764 Arabs and 321 Jews, alongside the British contingent.

• The PPF was dissolved in May 1948,  coinciding with the end of the Mandate and British withdrawal.
