Pair of Second World War period celluloid portrait badges: King George VI and Winston Churchill
Two patriotic lapel badges of the kind worn on the home front and across the Commonwealth to show loyalty to King and country.
The larger badge carries a sepia photographic portrait of King George VI in naval full dress, wearing his orders and decorations. The smaller badge shows Winston Churchill in his familiar hat and overcoat, a classic image of the wartime Prime Minister.
Both are of typical period construction: a printed photographic image under a celluloid face, rolled into a metal back ring, with a long straight pin passing through the rim to fasten to the lapel. The reverses show the original tinplate backing discs.
Condition is honest and consistent with age. The celluloid faces show light surface scratching, and the King badge has a small mark to the upper rim. The reverses show oxidation spotting to the backing discs, heavier on the Churchill badge. Both pins are present. A pleasing, matching pair of genuine wartime patriotic badges.
Sold as a pair.
