This is a scarce pre-Federation Malayan Engineers cap badge, worn during the late 1950s to early 1960s before Malaysia was formally established in 1963. It carries the title “Askar Jurutera Persekutuan” (Federation Engineers), a designation that disappeared after the formation of Malaysia, making surviving examples comparatively uncommon.

This example is a high-quality British-made badge, produced by Dowler of Birmingham, one of the foremost English manufacturers of Commonwealth insignia. It features the early Federation of Malaya arms within a laurel wreath, crossed engineer tools, and the motto “Berusaha Berkaliber” (“Work With Competence”), reflecting the corps’ role in combat engineering, construction, and infrastructure support during the final years of the Malayan Emergency and the transition period that followed.
