QVC The 25th (The Kings Own Borderers ) Regt of Foot officers gilt button, large 25m button by RENOLDS in great condition.

Through the Victorian period the regiment served across the Empire — garrisoning Ireland, the West Indies, South Africa, India, Gibraltar and Malta, and serving in the Second Afghan War of 1878–80 in the Bazar Valley and at the Khyber Pass. From 1900 to 1902 the 1st Battalion fought in the Boer War, taking part in actions at Paardeberg, Rustenberg, and Vlakfontein.
In 1881 the regiment became The 1st Battalion The King’s Own Borderers, and in 1887 it added “Scottish” to its name to become the King’s Own Scottish Borderers.

On the button itself: The backmark is “J.W. Reynolds & Co” mark at 50 St Martin’s Lane, London was used between 1871 and 1873
