•The corps was raised as the Army Service Corps (ASC) in 1870 and only gained the "Royal" prefix in 1918, in recognition of its First World War service. The "Royal Army Service Corps" scroll and cypher-centred design date from that change.
The GvR cypher places it in George V's reign, which ran until his death in January 1936.
