Rhodesian L.I officers collar badges appear to be silver plated worn circa 1971-80
Description
A matching pair of Rhodesian Light Infantry officers’ collar badges, believed to be silver-plated and worn circa 1971–1980. Both badges display crisp definition and retain their original finish, with rear pins intact.
These are high-quality examples of officer-grade insignia from one of Rhodesia’s most renowned elite units.
Background
The Rhodesian Light Infantry (R.L.I.) was formed in 1961 and became an elite commando regiment of the Rhodesian Army, earning a formidable reputation during the Bush War (1964–1979). The regiment specialised in airborne and heliborne assaults, adopting tactics that influenced modern counter-insurgency operations.
Collar badges of this type were worn by officers on service dress and mess uniforms during the final decade of Rhodesia’s existence, prior to the formation of Zimbabwe in 1980.
