South African Army Sharpshooters Award (1st class)

Nice looking coloured enamel on brass backing badge with the shape of a rifle over the enamel, still retaining its original 2 pin fixings. The weapon depicted is an R1 rifle — South Africa's licence-built version of the FN FAL, standard service rifle of the SADF from the early 1960s until it was gradually replaced by the R4 (a Galil derivative) from the early-to-mid 1980s.

 "Proficiency, 1st Class Shot" — awarded for a score of 105 points or more in rifle exercise Table 2, or 70% on the ARSA Watch 1 course
