The Transvaal Horse Artillery (THA) formed on 17 March 1904 as Lys’ Volunteer Corps in the Transvaal Colony after the Anglo-Boer War. It evolved through names like Transvaal Horse Artillery Volunteers (1904) and dropped “Volunteers” in 1911 to become simply THA. The unit served in both World Wars, including actions at Sidi Rezegh (1941) and El Alamein (1942), and underwent renamings like 3rd Citizen Battery (1926) and 3rd Field Brigade (1939).
