This is a US Air Force 60th Military Airlift Wing patch.

This is a US Air Force 60th Military Airlift Wing patch, worn during a very specific and now-closed chapter of USAF history. The title “Military Airlift Wing” dates  to 1966–1992 – the years when the unit operated under Military Airlift Command. After 1992, the designation disappeared entirely, making this patch unmistakably pre-1992 and Cold War–era.

The 60th MAW was based at Travis Air Force Base, California, one of the most important airlift hubs in the world. From here, the wing ran long-range global transport missions that underpinned US military power and humanitarian response alike.

During this period, the wing operated some of the most iconic heavy transport aircraft of the era:

• C-141 Starlifter – the workhorse of Cold War airlift, moving troops and cargo worldwide
• C-5 Galaxy – one of the largest aircraft ever built, capable of carrying tanks, helicopters, and outsized loads across oceans

These aircraft made the 60th MAW central to Vietnam War logistics, Cold War rapid-response planning, emergency evacuations, and large-scale humanitarian airlift.
