Army Scripture Reader’s Mufti Badge (ASR) – Bi-Metal Lapel Badge

c. 1930s–1950s | Very Good Condition | Scarce Collectible

This is an original Army Scripture Reader’s (ASR) mufti badge, designed specifically for wear in civilian dress rather than on military uniform. Unlike the larger cap badges worn on headdress, this smaller buttonhole-type lapel badge was issued only for a limited period and is now a scarce collectible.

This badge was worn by members of the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Scripture Readers Association (SASRA’s predecessor). Scripture Readers were lay Christian workers, not military chaplains. They accompanied units, visited barracks, and provided pastoral and spiritual support to soldiers.

Because they were civilians, they required an identifying emblem suitable for mufti (non-uniform) wear, leading to the production of this distinctive lapel badge.

A genuine and scarce Army Scripture Reader’s mufti badge, ideal for collectors of British auxiliary corps insignia or anyone seeking harder-to-find badges connected to spiritual and welfare roles within the Army.
