Rare WRAC ‘ULSTER’ terracotta brown wool shoulder title.

Very rare mint unissued beech / terracotta brown wool with white letters WRAC Ulster title believed to have only worn by the women serving with the AA Brigade.


Formed in Northern Ireland AA Command’s post-war 51st (Ulster) AA Brigade comprised the Regular 60th HAA Regiment, the Territorial 245th, 246th and 502nd HAA Regiments and 247th and 248th LAA/SL Regiments, supported by a Fire Command Troop, a signal squadron, RASC Motor Transport and REME Workshop Companies. The Brigade’s 1949 application to wear a red on blue ‘Ulster’ subsidiary arm title was supported by GOC Northern Ireland who thought it would have a beneficial effect on recruiting. The War Office Dress Committee approved the red on blue title in March 1950 but four versions were listed when introduced into service in May 1951; red on blue for Gunners, white on blue for the Brigade signal squadron and yellow on blue for its MT Company and REME AA Workshops. WRAC serving with Mixed Regiments, the Fire Command Troop, Signal Squadron and MT Company adopted a version with white letters on beech brown.
