WW1 CEF 242nd Forestry Battalion sweetheart badge, unusual to find a late number mother of pearl disc sweetheart.

Unit: the 242nd Battalion, CEF was based in Montreal, Quebec, and began recruiting in mid-1916, later absorbed into the Canadian Forestry Corps while still in Canada

Badge design: a King’s crown surmounting a circlet reading FORESTRY / BATTALION, with a tree in leaf in the centre, an inner circlet reading OVERSEAS with “242” in the middle, a beaver on a log at the base of the tree, and crossed wood axes with blades down.

Command: the battalion sailed on 23 November 1916 under Lieutenant-Colonel J.B. White with a strength of 44 officers and 1,006 other ranks, and was absorbed into the Canadian Forestry Corps in England. It was formally disbanded in 1920.
