WW1 CEF 61st Battalion (Winnipeg), collar/sweetheart badge.

 The 61st Battalion (Winnipeg), CEF was authorized on 20 April 1915 and embarked for Great Britain on 5 April 1915, providing reinforcements to the Canadian Corps until 6 July 1916, when its personnel were absorbed by the 11th Reserve Battalion, CEF; it was disbanded on 17 July 1917.

• It recruited and mobilized in Winnipeg with a strength of 37 officers and 1,096 other ranks, sailing from Halifax on the troop ship Olympic and disembarking in the UK on 11 April 1915.

• The battalion was raised by the 90th Winnipeg Rifles and 106th Winnipeg Light Infantry.

• Its lineage is perpetuated today by the Royal Winnipeg Rifles.
