This is a 6th Jat Light Infantry shoulder title, an Indian Army regiment title. The Jats are a martial community from the Punjab/Haryana region, and the Jat Regiment has a long and distinguished history under both the British Indian Army and post-independence Indian Army.
The “6th” designation:
The fractional superscript visible on the “6” – reading as 6th – is the regimental numbering. The 6th Jat Light Infantry has roots going back to the pre-Mutiny period, and the “Light Infantry” designation is a historic distinction of some prestige.
Dark green wool background with red chain-stitched lettering is characteristic of Indian Army shoulder titles. This style of curved rocker title was used through the late WWII and early post-independence period (roughly 1940s).
