Army & Navy Veterans in Canada numbered lapel badge by Birks, pre-1946

A gilt brass and enamel lapel badge of the Army & Navy Veterans in Canada, made by Birks and numbered 839 on the reverse.

The centre shows a crowned shield in red, white and blue enamel, flanked by stars, within the legend "Army & Navy Veterans in Canada". The outer border is a ring of alternating red, white and blue enamel panels. Screw-back fitting with domed nut.

The association traces its roots to 1840 and is Canada's oldest veterans' organisation. It became the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada in 1946, so this badge, without the "Air Force" title, predates that change. The low three-digit number is unusual to find.

Condition: excellent. Enamels bright and complete, gilding good with light age toning. A well made and attractive badge.
