Background
The Cape Town Highlanders Regiment was formed in 1885 and is one of South Africa’s oldest volunteer infantry units. During the Second World War, the regiment served as part of the 2nd South African Infantry Brigade, 1st South African Division, seeing major action in East Africa (Abyssinia) and North Africa, including El Alamein.
