4 different items;

A nice little Royal Air Force group of four, being sold together as one lot. Three sweetheart brooches from the Second World War era, all with the King's crown (pre-1953), together with a hand-made white metal Spitfire.

1. Gilt RAF pilot's wings sweetheart. Gilding metal, finely detailed feathering to the wings with the RAF monogram beneath the King's crown. Brooch pin fixing to the reverse.

2. Red, white and blue RAF wings sweetheart. An early plastic example in patriotic colours, with the RAF monogram picked out in gilt on a blue centre under the King's crown. Brass brooch pin plate secured to the reverse with two screws. Note: small chip to the very end of the right-hand wing tip.

3. Gilt and enamel RAF eagle sweetheart. Gilding metal, the RAF eagle in flight within a black enamel ring bearing the motto Per Ardua ad Astra, surmounted by the King's crown with red enamel. Brooch pin fixing to the reverse.

4. Hand-made white metal Spitfire. A very well made piece, cut, shaped and filed from a single piece of white metal. The elliptical wings and rounded tailplane make it unmistakably a Spitfire. Almost certainly the work of a skilled hand, possibly made in a workshop or as an apprentice piece. A lovely, individual item.

Sweethearts like these were worn by wives, mothers and girlfriends to show a loved one was serving with the RAF.
