WW2 RAF, Paratroopers, commandos etc brass escape compass in great condition.
MI9’s brainchild: They were designed by Clayton Hutton for MI9, the British intelligence unit dedicated to helping downed airmen and POWs escape. The button compass was one of WWII’s most quietly effective pieces of engineering, small enough to hide inside an RAF tunic button.
• Made between 1942 and 1945, MI9 organized the manufacture of more than 1.3 million round brass compasses, alongside maps and escape aids, and is credited with helping many Allied personnel get back to friendly territory.
