The RM had a substantial presence across Asian and Indian Ocean theatres:
∙ 3rd Commando Brigade operated extensively in Burma alongside the Chindits and regular forces
∙ Royal Marine Commandos took part in amphibious operations throughout the Indian Ocean, including raids on Sumatra and the Dutch East Indies
∙ HMS ships’ detachments - every major Royal Navy vessel carried an RM contingent, and the Eastern Fleet was very active from Ceylon (Sri Lanka)
∙ Combined Operations raids were mounted from India against Japanese-held coastlines
∙ Akyab and Rangoon - RM units were involved in the eventual recapture of Burma
