World War Two and into the late 1940s British Army formation sign for Allied Land Forces South East Asia (ALFSEA), Admiral Lord Mountbatten’s command responsible for directing British and Commonwealth operations against Japanese forces in Burma, Malaya and the wider South East Asia theatre. This is a theatre-made example — produced locally in the Far East rather than in Britain — hand embroidered in raw silk on a khaki cotton backing, designed to be sewn onto a shirt or jacket sleeve. Shows honest age and service wear, including some fraying to the backing threads and light fading to the blue ground, with a small mark to the lower border. A nice, tactile example of the scarcer theatre-made variety, as opposed to the more common machine-woven and printed versions.
