This is a WWII British “Airborne” straight shoulder strip (also called the “Airborne strip”), embroidered in Cambridge blue thread on maroon wool felt, with a paste/glue back. The Airborne strip was worn below the Pegasus divisional patch, and was officially intended for operational airborne troops who were not parachutists, in order to distinguish them from rear echelon personnel. Authorization was contained in ACI 2816 of 31 October 1942.
This badge is the best example you could find, having been dry stored in a paper envelope for decades. Unusually not even glue marks on rear.
